Week 1Lesson 1CVC Words: short a and short e sound (cat, pet)We will use an anchor chart and chant to practice the short a/e sounds. We will have a movement break. We will use a graphic organizer, to decode and blend a CVC word, and practice reading a sentence. In the spelling component, we will follow 3 steps to practice spelling a CVC word with short a/e sound and then read a sentence. For the remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce reading words and/or sentences with CVC with short a/e sounds.Week 2Lesson 2CVC Words: short i and short o sound (pin, top)We will use an anchor chart and chant to practice the short i/o sounds. We will have a movement break. We will use a graphic organizer, to decode and blend a CVC word, and practice reading a sentence. In the spelling component, we will follow 3 steps to practice spelling a CVC word with short i/e sound and then read a sentence. For the remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce reading words and/or sentences with CVC with short i/o sounds.Week 3Lesson 3CVC Words: short u sound (mule)We will use an anchor chart and chant to practice the short u sound. We will have a movement break. We will use a graphic organizer, to decode and blend a CVC word, and practice reading a sentence. In the spelling component, we will follow 3 steps to practice spelling a CVC word with short u sound and then read a sentence. For the remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce reading words and/or sentences with CVC with short u sound.Week 4Lesson 4Initial Blends (CCVC): bl, cl, fl, gl (blot, clap, flip, glad)We will use an anchor chart and chant to practice the initial blends (bl, cl, fl, gl) sounds. We will have a movement break. We will use a graphic organizer, to decode and blend an initial blend word and practice reading a sentence. In the spelling component, we will follow 3 steps to practice spelling an initial blend word and then read a sentence. For the remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce reading words and/or sentences with initial blends words.Week 5Lesson 5Initial Blends (CCVC): tr, pr, sn (trim, prom, snap)We will use an anchor chart and chant to practice the initial blends (tr, pr, sn) sounds. We will have a movement break. We will use a graphic organizer, to decode and blend an initial blend word and practice reading a sentence. In the spelling component, we will follow 3 steps to practice spelling an initial blend word and then read a sentence. For the remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce reading words and/or sentences with initial blends words.Week 6Lesson 6Final Blends (CVCC): mp, nk, nt (camp, tank, tent)We will use an anchor chart and chant to practice the final blends (mp, nk, nt) sounds. In the spelling component, we will follow 3 steps to practice spelling an digraph word and then read a sentence. For the remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce reading words and/or sentences with digraph words.Week 8Lesson 8Digraphs: Soft and Hard th (think, that)We will use an anchor chart and chant to practice the digraph (hard and soft th) sounds. We will have a movement break. We will use a graphic organizer, to decode and blend an digraph word and practice reading a sentence. In the spelling component, we will follow 3 steps to practice spelling a digraph word and then read a sentence. For the remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce reading words and/or sentences with digraph words.Week 9Lesson 9Digraphs: ck (sock)We will use an anchor chart and chant to practice the digraph ck sound. We will have a movement break. We will use a graphic organizer, to decode and blend a digraph words and practice reading a sentence. In the spelling component, we will go over a spelling rule and follow 3 steps to practice spelling a digraph word and then read a sentence. For the remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce reading words and/or sentences with digraph words.Week 10Lesson 10Bonus (Floss) Letters: F, L, S, Z (stuff, mill, mess, buzz)This week’s lesson, we will use an anchor chart to explain the double the letter rule. We will have a movement break. We will use a graphic organizer, to decode and blend a floss word. We will read a sentence. In the spelling component, we will follow 3 steps to practice spelling a floss letter word. For the remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce reading words and/or sentences with floss letter words. Some examples: staff, spell, class, fuzzWeek 11Lesson 11What is a Syllable and Closed Syllable? (mag)This week's lesson will focus on what a syllable and closed syllable are? They will be introduced to the short vowel marking called a breve. We will practice identifying and sounding out closed syllables through playing games. Some examples: dot, prob, sevWeek 12Lesson 12Syllable VCCV Pattern (mit/ten/nap/kin)This week’s lesson, while using a graphic organizer, we will learn a strategy to find the VCCV syllable pattern, learn about the rule on dividing a VCCV word so that has two syllables and the vowel sound is short in the first syllable. We will complete two activities: sounding out VCCV words, reading sentences and spelling a VCCV word. The remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce VCCV words. Some examples: rab/bit or nap/kinWeek 13Lesson 13Syllable VC/V Pattern (sev/en)This week’s lesson, while using a graphic organizer, we will learn a strategy to find the VC/V syllable pattern, learn about the rule on dividing a VC/V word so that has two syllables and the vowel sound is short in the first syllable. We will complete two activities: sounding out VC/V words, reading sentences and spelling a VC/V word. The remainder of the class, we will play games to reinforce VC/V words. An example: sev/en
- -Students will learn about 7 phonics skills. -Through chants or songs, students will learn the phonics skill sound. -Using graphic organizers and finger tapping, students will learn how to decode and blend phonics skills. -Students will be introduced to short vowel markings (breve). -Students will look for chunks in words to sound out. -Students will practice reading simple sentences and spelling. Learners will practice decoding, blend, spell, write and read words and/or sentences.
I have a master's degree in education (M.S. Ed). I've received state certifications in Early Childhood Education (Birth-2) and Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6) Over 20 years' experience in elementary education especially learners from ages 5-8. I have a Classroom Educator Level Certificate in Orton Gillingham Reading Approach to help learners with dyslexia however it can benefit all learners.
