In this course, Students will make their own cloud in a jar while they learn about how clouds are formed and how to determine the various cloud types. Students will come to understand the difference between cumulus, stratus, and cirrus clouds. Students will further investigate the role of altitude on clouds to understand the variations of clouds that include altostratus, altocumulus , cirrostratus, and cirrocumulus, clouds. Finally, the role of rain and moisture will be discussed in relation to cloud formation so students will understand the difference between nimbostratus, cumulonimbus, stratocumulus clouds.

Make Your Own Cloud: The Experiment will need PARENT SUPPORT - the experiment is done in the last 10 minutes of the class, in other words at the :45 min mark. PLEASE NOTE: Per Outschool Policy, Parents must remain off camera during their assistance. a glass jar with metal lid (mason type works best with metal disk or an empty spaghetti sauce jars with metal lid) 1 cup of hot water from the tap (not boiling) 3-4 ice cubes PARENT JOB: 1 match or long style lighter (the adult will light the match and hold it in the jar briefly then drop into the water)
