This class will delve into weather forecasting with a distinct focus on aviation meteorology. This will be an interactive course that will use real-world forecasting products such as surface charts, graphical model data, radar, and satellite products to forecast weather. The main resource will be provided for the students to use. The Air Force technical manual TN 98-002 will be used for classroom guidance with hands on explanation of the forecast techniques found in the manual. It will be a fun and engaging way to learn about weather forecasting. The technical manual will be supplemented by Power Point slides and student interaction and questions. The focus of this class will be on specific areas of forecasting such as clouds, fog, rain, snow, thunderstorms, surface winds, jet streams, fronts, synoptic scale analysis, temperature forecasting, turbulence, icing, Radar, and Satellite. The desire of the teacher is to engage the students with questions and dialogue to help them further learn the material and answer questions. The classes are each separate and distinct from each other but some concepts are used in earlier classes in later classes. Therefore, it is suggested to start from the beginning of the class to get the most out of the total class. However, the student may join in at any time during the duration of this class. There will be no assigned homework in this class and the teaching style will be lecture via TN 98-002 and power point material with a few questions asked of the students.
