週あたり 1-2 時間. As students are writing papers in this class, homework will be assigned that is specific to the task that was covered in class. An hour in class generally translates to an hour of homework before the next class, but some assignments will require less of the student. Some students may want to spend more than an hour on assignments, but it is not required or expected. Homework assignments are focused their own essays, and each day is broken down into specific, manageable tasks.
テスト
During class, students will be informally assessed through class discussion and activity to ensure student understanding and so I, as the teacher, can adapt the class to student's needs. Student homework will be done on a shared google document where I will provide feedback on all submitted work.
文章の成績
Learners and parents have the option of receiving a letter grade at the end of the class on their final paper. A grading rubric will be provided for these students.

Intermediate レベル向け
This comprehensive writing class will take learners through the entire essay-writing process. At the end of the course, students will have completed a polished final draft of an informative research essay on a topic of their choosing.

Each class is interactive in nature, and will focus on a different element of writing an informative research paper. Homework will be posted the same day as each class and will walk students through writing their own essay. Students will complete homework on an individual shared google document and will receive regular feedback from me before moving on to the next step.

Session 1: Research (how to select credible sources, annotating, close reading, etc); selecting a topic

Session 2: Thesis Statements and Outlines

Session 3: Body Paragraphs, Transition Sentences, In-text citations (parenthetical references, MLA formatted)

Session 4: Writing Introductions

Session 5: Writing Conclusions and Works Cited (MLA formatted)

Session 6: Revision Strategies

Students with a wide variety of background knowledge will do well in this class, but at a minimum students should feel comfortable writing paragraphs on their own. Students who are not familiar with research essays are welcome to write a four or five paragraph essay (two or three body paragraphs), and students with a more advanced background in essay writing will be challenged to write longer essays or work on fine-tuning skills they already possess.

A note about missing classes: While being able to attend every class is ideal, it is not necessary to succeeding in this class. Each class recording is posted automatically to the classroom after class (usually within an hour of the end of class). Students can watch the recording for missed classes to catch up. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

If your learner needs to strengthen paragraph writing before taking this class, please check out this paragraph writing class, Essay Essentials: Paragraph Practice, Beyond the Basics (with Feedback).
