This is a self paced class. You will watch the video lesson (4 videos at approximately 20- 30 minutes each). Then, you will engage in the interactive activities, class discussions on the classroom tab, and assignments. The assignments can be submitted in the private message tab or the classroom tab The class takes approximately 45 minutes to complete for each session. The class is divided into four sessions. We will be covering the following criteria: Skeletal system- function, bone basic growth and development, axial skeleton, appendicular skeleton, and classifying fractures.

The lesson will follow the following session order:
1. Introduction to bones- growth, characteristics, and categorizing the bones.
2. Appendicular skeleton- naming the bones of the appendicular skeleton
3. Axial skeleton- naming the bones of the axial skeleton.
4. Classifying fractures.

Communication throughout each session will include the following:
I will use a variety of learning materials for this course to include: powerpoint presentations presented during the weekly class recorded video session, video/animated modeled, interactive online activities, and worksheets. I will be providing students with a hyperdocument worksheet to complete for each section where all the outside links are accessible (such as purpose game/free anatomy games/Quizlet/ Quizizz), and problem sets to complete.
Students will not need to have accounts for any of the activities and games.

By the end of the four weeks students will have a great understanding of the skeletal system.

学習到達目標

The following is specific details about learning goals for each week.
Part 1.In this lesson we will cover bone composition, bone types and development. You will watch the presentation. Then on your document you will sort the types of the bones into their appropriate categories. Then you will identify the bone composition and phases of growth. In this lesson we will discuss Osteocytes, Osteoclasts, and Osteoblasts, Osteogenisus, epiphyseal plates, appositional growth, long bones, short bones, irregular bones, and flat bones. You will fill in your hyperdoc naming example

Part 2: In this lesson you will practice the Appendicular Skeleton with me by watching the demonstration and then completing your bone graphic. The bones we will name are: Scapula, Humerus, Radius, Ulna, Carpals, Metacarpals, Phalanges, Femur, Patella, Tibia, Fibula, Tarsals, Metatarsals, and Calcaneus. Then, you will pause the video and engage in interactive games

Part 3 In this lesson you will be learning about the roles of the Axial Skeleton. After playing the games, review the video to watch the demonstration of naming the Axial Skeleton. We will practice naming the parts of the Cervical Vertebrae, Lumbar Vertebrae, Thoracic Vertebrae, Sternum, Frontal, Parietal, Temporal, Occipital, Zygomatic, Mandible, Maxillae, Vomer, Sacrum, Coccyx, Atlas and Axis bones. You then will go to the hyperdoc and engage in the interactive activities.

Part 4: In this lesson, you will return to the video and learn about fractures. You will be able to identify fractures based on description and x ray or cartoon images. You will be able to differentiate between closed and open fractures, complete, greenstick and compound fractures, transverse, longitudinal, and oblique fractures, as well as depression fractures, impacted fractures and more. You will learn the process of bone repair. You will be able to sequence the steps of bone repair. You will be able to play interactive games and practice worksheets to review.

Hi! I'm Abbie Butler, a passionate and experienced educator specializing in Life Sciences. I'd love to answer any questions you have – just send me a message!

My Expertise:
 * B.S. in Biology, AYA Teaching License (Grades 7-12) in Life Sciences (Muskingum University, 2013)
 * 10+ years teaching high school Life Sciences (Biology, Anatomy, Zoology, Oceanography, Nutrition, Botany, Horticulture, Environmental Science) and leading knit and crochet clubs.
 * 5+ years of online teaching experience (since 2018).
 * Experience tutoring for standardized science exams (OGT, OAA, NCSE, End of Course exams aligned with Ohio and NGSS standards).
 * 2 years of online ESL teaching.

My Classes:
I offer engaging and interactive classes in Anatomy, Biology, Zoology, Botany, Environmental Science, and lab-based topics. I also teach crochet to learners aged 12-18 and offer private tutoring.

My Teaching Style:
I believe in hands-on, student-centered learning. My lessons are interactive, incorporating practice and application throughout. A typical class structure involves short teaching segments using Quizizz or PowerPoint, followed by practice questions (multiple choice, diagrams, matching), then another short teaching segment with more practice, culminating in a review and summary.

About Me:
I'm a left-handed crocheter with 14 years of experience. I provide clear explanations, modeling, and supplemental YouTube videos to support your learning. I also enjoy biking, fishing, nature walks, baking (attempts!), crafting with my Cricut, and spending time with my family.

My Teaching Philosophy:
I'm committed to helping you achieve mastery and long-term retention of the material. I believe learning is most effective when you're actively involved. My classes are designed to be fun and engaging, leaving you confident in your new knowledge. Hyperdocs with Google Docs are used to share resources on the day of class.

Class Policies:
 * Cancellations: If a class doesn't meet minimum enrollment, I'll contact enrolled students to discuss options: proceed with the smaller class or transfer to another section. If no students arrive, I'll wait 5-10 minutes and then record the lesson for later viewing.
 * Refunds/Transfers: Most classes follow a "Limited" refund policy: refunds are available up to one week before the class or within 24 hours of purchase. After that, transfers are possible up to 24 hours before class. No-shows are not refunded but may receive a recording.
 * Recordings: I generally post recordings upon parent request or weekly, if I remember to post them automatically. Recordings are accessible in the classroom.
 * Flex Classes: I am currently revamping my flex class offerings. Recordings of live classes can be used with provided materials for self-paced learning.

Specials & Coupons: Check class descriptions for special offers!

Thank you for your interest! I look forward to seeing you in class!

Sincerely,
Abbie
