Do you wish you understood more about how elections in the United States work? Do you want to be able to watch or read the news about the upcoming election and understand the bigger picture? Then this class is for you!

Each week, using current news articles, we will explore different aspects of the U.S. election system including how to be a candidate, campaigning, political ads, political parties and their platforms, voting and election security, the history of elections, the electoral college, and more. Articles will come from a variety of news sources, both domestic and international, including The New York Times, The Economist, BBC, The Washington Post, Reuters, the Associated Press, and others.  This lecture and discussion-based class is a fascinating combination of history, politics, economics, sociology, critical thinking, media analysis and more. 

Students will regularly be provided with additional information after class to allow additional in-depth exploration of issues touched on in class.
