In this 10 week course, using the “flipped classroom model”, each week learners will work on case study at home from the book Fuzzy Logic - Think Like a Veterinarian and then we will review the cases as a group. Learners are expected to have a copy of the book at home. (Available on Amazon for example) These cases will allow learners to expand their veterinary terminology knowledge, stretch their critical thinking and inductive and deductive logic muscles while having fun solving cases! Learners will read and work through the case PRIOR to class on their own and then we will all discuss the case as a group, just as veterinarians do as they consult with other doctors! Preparation prior to class is expected including reading the case and taking notes on each question asked in the book on that particular case. Each case helps to develop critical thinking by having learners organize the patient history, gather clues, develop differential diagnoses, decide on further diagnostics needed, diagnose the patient and create a treatment plan. These cases are from the author’s experience. The schedule will go as follows: Week 1: introductions, expectations and intro to logic Week 2: case 1 Furrbeus McPurr Week 3: case 2 Petruchio Week 4: case 3 Katherina Week 5: case 4 Missy Week 6: case 5 Max Week 7: case 6 Lady (parts A and B) Week 8: case 7 Alexander Hamilton Week 9: case 8 & 9 Spike + Petruchio….Again (2 cases) Week 10: case 10 & 11 Oh no… not again + Ophelia This course is not meant to create situations where learners should feel they are able to diagnose patients. That can only be done by a licensed veterinarian with a client/patient relationship. This is course strictly developed to stretch the learners logic and critical thinking while learning about what veterinarians do for their patients. Additional YouTube video links may be provided after class to provide learners with more information from the topic of the week. These are optional.
