Understanding Your Child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

This 30-minute collaborative session is designed for both parents/guardians and students to gain a clear understanding of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Together, we will review your child’s current IEP to ensure it is tailored to meet their unique academic and functional needs.

Session Objectives:

Understand the key components of an IEP
Collaborate to ensure the IEP reflects your child’s strengths and areas for growth
Empower both parents and students to actively participate in the IEP process
What We’ll Cover:

Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP):

How this section outlines your child’s current abilities and needs
Using strengths to guide goal development
Annual Goals:

Reviewing current goals to ensure they are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound)
Discussing how goals support academic and functional growth
Accommodations & Specially Designed Instruction (SDIs):

Understanding the difference between accommodations and SDIs
Ensuring these supports are meaningful and effective
Schedule of Services:

Clarifying when and how services will be provided
Discussing inclusion, resource support, and related services
Teaching Style:
With extensive experience as an Educator who implements IEPS and Accommadations and as a parent of a child who has an IEP, I create an engaging, supportive environment where we work as a team. I focus on using your child’s strengths to guide meaningful discussions and ensure the IEP is truly individualized.

Expect an interactive session with open discussions, questions, and real-time feedback. This is a collaborative space where your insights are valued.

As an experienced educator, I have worked extensively with students across diverse age groups and learning needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other learning differences. My background includes implementing and reviewing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring they are tailored to support both academic achievement and functional growth, especially my own sons.

I specialize in breaking down complex IEP components into clear, understandable parts for both parents and students. My approach is rooted in collaboration—empowering families to become confident advocates in the IEP process while fostering student self-awareness and self-advocacy.

With a strong foundation in differentiated instruction and special education best practices, I’m dedicated to helping you understand not just what is in your child’s IEP, but why it matters and how it can be optimized to support their success.
