Experiencia de clase

This class is the flexible version of a live class that I teach and is geared to those who have varied schedules! If you are looking for a fun human anatomy class, this is the place for you. In this course, we will explore some of the 206 bones that the human body has. Students will learn various sketching and shading techniques. Students will also have an opportunity to create a mixed media drawing in the last week of the class. Here is a detailed outlook on the course.

Week one: Drawing detailed skulls inspired by "Memento Mori". At the beginning of the week, specifically on Monday, I will post a video on specific images related to the main topic which is drawing skulls. I will also ask students to critique these images using questions that I have provided as well as asking their own questions. They will be asked to pause the video when necessary to respond to my questions. I will also provide the assignment in another video in which I will share each step required for their main assignment. They will be able to do this at their own convenient time.
Another video lesson will be provided midweek for students which will entail shading techniques that they would be asked to recreate and post on an interactive board. Students will also be asked to share a still-life composition in any medium. Next, students will be asked to comment and give specific feedback on each other's work.
At the end of the week, students will share their final assignments through videos. They would be asked to talk about their process and even share a drawing technique that they know of! I will provide final feedback on each of the student's work and they, in turn, can comment on each other's work.

Week two: We will do a study of different skeletal bones and create artwork inspired by Dia de Los Muertos. On Monday, I will post a video of a presentation of Dia de Los Muertos. I will also post a video of the assignments that we will do the week. I will share the strategies that I use to create the drawings from sketching to shading.
Students will also be asked to post the first assignment on an interactive board. They will be asked to critique once again using a given set of questions. Students will also look for Dia de Los Muertos images to post in the classroom. They will also respond to their thoughts and feelings on the images provided.
At the end of the week, students will share their final assignments through videos. They would be asked to talk about their process and even share a drawing technique that they know of! I will provide final feedback on each of the student's work and they, in turn, will comment on each other's work.

Week three: Drawing the lower bones, spine, legs, and feet. On Monday, I will post a video of the related topic which shows the lower skeleton in detail but also in a creative form. I will also post a video of the assignment related to the topic of the week. I will share the strategies that I use to create the drawing from sketching to shading. This week will be slightly different as students will work on another collaborative piece of work which will be posted in the classroom. Students will engage in discussion and respond to the artwork through commenting on certain parts of the drawing done by the other students. At the end of the week, students will share their final assignments through videos. They would be asked to talk about their process and even share a drawing technique that they know of! I will provide final feedback on each of the student's work and they, in turn, will comment on each other's work.

Week four: Final Drawing of the entire human skeleton. On Monday, I will post a video of the related topic which shows the entire skeleton in detail but also in a creative form. I will also post a video of the assignment related to the topic of the week. I will share the strategies that I use to create the drawing from sketching to shading. I will also post a video using watercolors on a part of the skeleton. they will be asked to do a scavenger hunt afterward using their images afterward. Students will also be asked to share their drawings on an interactive board as well as make comments on each other's work. At the end of the week, students will share their final assignments through videos. They would be asked to talk about their process and even share a drawing technique that they know of! I will provide final feedback on each of the student's work and they, in turn, will comment on each other's work.

Feedback and Art criticism will be an essential part of this class, so students will need to post their work at the end of each week in order for any kind of meaningful discussion to happen. This will also allow students to grow and reflect on their work as artists. Throughout the week, students will be asked to post mini exercises in class. In addition, I will check in to answer any questions and give feedback during the week in the evenings. I look forward to having you in this class!
