"Your writing could be good, but editing will make it better." -- This idea is at the root of this class. Many students do not understand the importance of self-editing their work before turning in their writing assignments.

For more than 10 years, I have been teaching academic English writing classes to university students; now I teach writing to students on OutSchool. In both cases, I have discovered a major problem with writing assignments is the fact student do not check their work before turning it in to teachers. By providing students with a specific guidelines, a checklist and questions to use for editing, students will develop clearer path to writing success.

Pre-class Activity:
**SENTENCES MUST BE TYPED. NO HANDWRITTEN SENTENCES **
Students should complete the "My Life" worksheet. This maybe be completed on a computer or handwritten on a print out. The worksheet should be brought to the live class meeting. In class, students will use the worksheet as material for self-editing. In addition,
students can submit the completed worksheet before class, so I can use their sentences as examples during the class.

Class:
1. Introduction to editing and self-editing
2. Discuss "10 Steps of Self-Editing Guide"
3. Group practice of example sentences
4. Independent practice of self-editing with sentences from pre-class worksheet
5. Review of checklist and questions to ask during self-editing.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will understand how to edit their sentences and why editing is important in writing. They will learn how to self-correct common writing errors, such as run-on sentences, verb tenses, & FANBOYS usage.
