Please note that our class topics are subject to change. You are welcome to join the class at any time, and each week stands independently without building on the previous one.

Throughout the course, we will alternate between instructional segments and brief work/discussion periods. Questions and discussions are always welcome! While participation is encouraged, sharing ideas and writing with the class is entirely optional. If any student is uncomfortable sharing or prefers not to be called on, please let us know, and their preferences will be respected.

This comprehensive class focuses on all aspects of English Language Arts, including reading, grammar, and writing. Our sessions often involve engaging discussions, group activities, brainstorming sessions, and the opportunity to express opinions. However, if you or your learner prefer a writing-only class, please consider joining our Paragraph Writing class.

Please bring a notebook/paper, pencil and crayons/markers/colored pencils to class.

We (usually) have a couple of minutes of optional off-topic sharing at the end of each class. This allows students to connect with each other and share things that are going on in their lives outside the classroom.

If a student is unable to attend a class, they have the option to attend another section of the same class if available or access the recorded session after the class has concluded. It's important to note that missed classes are not eligible for refunds.

Our organization is based in a location that does not have daylight savings time. Our daytime classes (taught by Melissa Ellen LLB) will not shift for daylight savings time. Other classes (early morning or after school/evening) may shift in accordance with the location of the teacher.

This is an inclusive class and all learners are welcome. Each student and all ideas will be treated with kindness and respect.

This relaxed English Language Arts class will go through the third and fourth-grade curriculum in a creative and engaging way. We can't wait to meet your learner in the classroom!

Meet Our Teachers

🟢Ms. Melissa, JD (founder)

Hello! Welcome to Wild Prairie Learning!

I am a lawyer turned online teacher with a deep passion for education. Prior to attending law school at the University of Saskatchewan, I studied education and linguistics in university at the University of Alberta. More recently, I completed my TEFOL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification.

I have been teaching English successfully online for the past 6 years and have taught thousands of private and group online classes. I love helping students learn new skills and accomplish their goals.

When I am not teaching, I am likely to be spending time with my family! I have four children ages 8-18, a husband, two cats, and a miniature poodle named Penny. We spend our summers camping, and we love to play board games together!

🟢Ms. Amanda, MEd, TESOL/TEFL

Hi, I’m Ms. Amanda! I have been a U.S. state certified teacher for over 12 years both in-person and online. I have my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education. My Master’s degree is in Classroom Technology. I have TESOL, TEFL, and ESL Specialist certificates. I taught English as a Second Language for four years in a school district. For the last eight (plus) years, I have been teaching online to over 5,000 students and over 15,000 classes! I have spent my entire teaching career specializing in teaching English, and love what I do!

I have worked with children ages 3-18 and excel in forming a positive classroom environment. I find my kind and upbeat personality allows me to connect and engage with students in my classroom. I believe when learners feel more comfortable and welcomed in their environment, they will become more active in their learning! I love building relationships with students as they begin to express themselves in class and take their learning to the next level!

When I am not teaching online, I am homeschooling my son! I enjoy spending time with my family, and taking care of my little "zoo" including multiple dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, and fish! I love swimming, and cheering on my son at his various activities!

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me, and I'm excited to begin learning together!

Hello All, my name is Mrs. Amy and I am excited about building confidence and academic success with learners of all ages!

During my educational path, I have obtained my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Master's degree in School Counseling. While I am currently state certified in both, I am also certified in the Science of Reading.

I have worked onsite and online with students from preschool to adult learners for 25 years. As a lifelong learner myself, I want my students to embrace learning new things and to be active participants in their educational adventures.
