Does your student love to read or would you like them to read more? Do they like history? In this book club, we help develop life-long readers and a love for history. Want to give the class a try? Use code LEARN9L4PX5 to save $5 today! * Students do need a copy of the book or Kindle edition for this class. Class Overview: In this engaging class, we’ll read and discuss two of Lauren Tarshis’s I Survived books each month, focusing on those inspired by real historical events. These popular books bring history to life, helping students relate to the past through the experiences of young protagonists who face challenges during major historical moments. ✅ What We’ll Do in Class: • Interactive Read-Aloud: We’ll read aloud and discuss plot, characters, setting, and historical context, encouraging students to share thoughts and insights. • Building Skills: Our focus includes strengthening reading comprehension, exploring vocabulary, practicing fluency, and developing critical thinking. Optional At-Home Activities: ✅ After class: • After each class, students receive a book review sheet and comprehension questions to deepen their understanding, providing a great way for you to engage with them about their reading. • Students will have to read some chapters at home. ✅ Why I Survived Books? These historical fiction stories make history relatable, transporting students into the heart of historical events while enhancing their comprehension and vocabulary skills. Research shows that when students can relate to information, they retain it better—whether they’re reluctant or avid readers, these books will capture their interest! ✅ Students will also receive: • Building Vocabulary Through Reading Worksheet • Active Reading Worksheet About Our Teachers: Achieve Learning Partners teachers are kind, patient, and dedicated to nurturing a love of reading. We are here to support your student’s reading journey with periodic feedback and open communication. ✅ Important Details: • Ages/Levels: Grades 2-7 • Frequency: 4 times per month, covering 2 books monthly • Reading Level Check: Ensure the book is a good fit by checking a sample on Amazon. A good rule is no more than 5 missed words per page. • Content: We strive to choose appropriate books but recommend checking resources like Common Sense Media to confirm they align with your family’s preferences. Let’s make history come alive and foster a love of reading in your child! Please reach out if you have questions or need further guidance. 📚Schedule and Books 📚 ⭐ JANUARY ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Great Alaska Earthquake, 1964 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Joplin Tornado, 2011 ⭐ FEBRUARY ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Hindenburg Disaster, 1937 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Children's Blizzard, 1888 ⭐ MARCH ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Battle of Gettysburg, 1863 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Great Chicago Fire, 1871 ⭐ APRIL ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the California Wildfires, 2018 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Galveston Hurricane, 1900 ⭐ MAY ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Wellington Avalanche, 1910 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the American Revolution, 1776 ⭐ JUNE ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Nazi Invasion, 1944 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic, 1912 ⭐ JULY ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Destruction of Pompeii, AD 79 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Battle of Normandy (D-Day), 1944 ⭐ AUGUST ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Shark Attack of 1916 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Eruption of Mount St. Helens, 1980 ⭐ SEPTEMBER ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Attacks of September 11, 2001 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Japanese Tsunami, 2011 ⭐ OCTOBER ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived Hurricane Katrina, 2005 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 ⭐ NOVEMBER ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Attack of the Grizzlies, 1967 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Great Molasses Flood, 1919 ⭐ DECEMBER ⭐ Week 1 and 2 - I Survived the Bombing of Pearl Harbor, 1941 Week 3 and 4 - I Survived the Black Death, 1348 Happy Reading!
