Tarea
1 hora por semana. Students will be given small assignments within the class which are usually finished during the class. The most effective way for the majority of students to learn how to program is by practicing. Most of class time is spent by students typing their own code, with the teacher checking work and troubleshooting errors with students.
Evaluación
There is no official assessment; however, students complete several tasks throughout the course.

Python Programming is a course modified from my high school course to allow younger students to learn java programming as well.  In addition to video chat and screen sharing, we will be using replit.com as a coding platform.  I use replit.com in my physical classrooms as well.  It provides a 100% online code editor with real-time feedback.  Students can immediately run their code to see what the program looks like.  replit.com also provides the teacher the ability to assign classwork and share code with others in real time.  Each student will be required to create a free account on replit.com and join my classroom for access to class material.  I will walk students through this process during the first session.  

This is the fifth unit in a five unit course.  Students do not need to continue on in the course unless they wish to learn more about python programming. Unit 5 covers the following topics:
creating functions
calling functions
parameters
return values
creating arrays
modifying arrays
traversing arrays
common algorithms used with arrays

A typical session involves several mini-lessons.  I will share my screen in order to show students a new topic.  Afterwards students will attempt to use the newly learned topic on their own repl.it screen with guidance from me when needed.  Once all students have mastered a topic the class will move on to the next mini-lesson.  If all students master every topic for the session we will move on to topics from the next session.  If we reach the final session with extra time I will introduce some extended topics or topics the students request.  

Other units in the series covers the following:
Unit 1: replit intro, output, variables, input, casting, math functions, random number generator
Unit 2 – conditional statements, logic operators, rgb color values, common algorithms used with conditionals
Unit 3 – while loops, counters, flags, sentinel values, for loops, common algorithms used with iteration
Unit 4 – creating a GUI(graphical user interface), color, coordinate system, drawing shapes with the GUI
Unit 5 – creating functions, calling functions, parameters, return values, creating arrays, modifying arrays, traversing arrays, common algorithms used with arrays

Students will learn the basics of python in order to create programs that create functions, call functions, use parameters, use return values, create arrays, modify arrays, traverse arrays, and use common algorithms with arrays.

Students are expected to create a free account at replit.com and join my classroom in order to take this course. Replit.com is student friendly. I use this resource in my physical classrooms as well. This does mean your student has access to code written by others, and any posts made by those users. You may read more at replit.com if you need more information.
