Beginners: 

🎶 We will play using the Essential Elements 2000 Clarinet Book 1.   I also teach out of Accents on Achievement if you have that one.

🎶 We will work on putting our instruments together, making a good tone, answering any questions you have and then proceeding with Book 1 exercises. When appropriate, you will play with accompaniment, if you are willing.

🎶 Book 1 covers posture, breathing, and taking care of your instrument.  It also covers names of the parts of your instrument, beginning note reading (the staff, lines, spaces, note names, clefs), beats and counting, first notes, the key signature, harmony, reading quarter notes, then eighth notes.  Quarter rest, bar lines, repeat signs, and other basics of reading music are taught.  Many fun short pieces of music are in the class.
I try to meet students where they are, so they can stay interested and engaged while making progress.

Intermediate students:  

We will work from where you are right now. I do teach improvisation and scales along with the books— your books, if I have or can acquire one of my own.  Often, band or orchestra directors want Private Lesson teachers to help with what they’re learning in the ensemble. I do a lot of helping with parts from band or orchestra. I also teach solos, for personal enrichment or for solo and ensemble.
