Grado de EE. UU. Kindergarten - 2
This class will introduce learners to open syllables. Students will learn the components of an open syllable, be able to identify an open syllable and use strategies to read them accurately in isolation and in text. The class will begin with a virtual greetings and phonics warm up to review key sounds and the concept of a closed syllable. Students will review the concepts of vowels, consonants, and syllables. I will teach the students what an open syllable is, and we will work together to identify them in isolation and in short sentences. Finally, the students will practice strategies for coding and reading words with closed syllables. I try to use as many multi-sensory activities as possible, even when virtual. I encourage class participation and engagement. This class will allow students ample time to interact with me and the other students to show what they learned in the class. Students should be able to apply this knowledge in their independent reading immediately, but it will take repeated practice for some students to master the skill. Students should know the alphabet and most sounds each letter make prior to this class. Students should also know what a closed syllable is and be able to read CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words with ease (fan, cat, bed, pig, etc).
