Nivel Intermediate
In this class, I will guide students through a brainstorming session to help them choose unique persuasive essay topics. Example prompts will be provided to help spark students' ideas. Students will then engage in an in-depth written exploration of the pre-writing process, utilizing a graphic organizer to outline their plans. This process will include modeling, as I will prompt students to collaborate with me on a graphic organizer outline and allow time for thorough explanations and questions. Once students understand the steps of the pre-writing process, they will complete their own graphic organizer outlines. Through this process, students will learn how to complete a comprehensive outline, expressing their thesis, planned evidence/reasoning, counterarguments, and conclusions for a persuasive composition. During students' independent work time, I will be available for questions and will check in on students' progress to ensure they understand every step. Materials needed for this lesson include the persuasive writing graphic organizer, which is available to print in the materials section below. Alternatively, students may use their own notebook or paper to create their outline if preferred. At the end of the class, I will ask students to share their ideas and offer graded feedback with commentary (if requested) to be returned at a later date.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will understand persuasive essay planning and prewriting, and be able to complete this process independently after this lesson.
