anatomy of an octopus 
the solitary habits of the octopus from birth to death
biological terms like anthropomorphism and chromataphors
how scientists define self-consciousness
how scientists define intelligence

I have done research on octopuses, squid, and cuttle fish for years in preparation for a writing project.  I've amassed a lot of biology knowledge about these creatures, their habitats, subspecies, and learning abilities along the way.  Meanwhile, I know how to turn children's minds towards learning and absorbing knowledge while making class exiting and engaging.  This class will challenge students to think about what counts as intelligence in the scientific world.  More importantly, students will become active learners in an attempt to solve the mystery of how the octopus can have developed its curiosity and intelligence without being a social creature.

Detalles: Students will have handouts to print up and fill out during class.  Students without a printer can also pull up the handout on their computer and fill it out without printing it.

Detalles: Students compete in two teams to see who can remember the most from yesterday’s lesson. There is a team winner at the end of each day and an overall team winner at the end of the week.
