What if there was a world with clashing rings? Or a dark moon few dare to visit?  
Pick a part of the world that’s all your own and people it with a made-up society.  
Do monsters roam your land? Space ships? Or is it a time portal to somewhere else?

In every workshop class we start with imaginative brainstorming exercises.  Students then write fiction or poetry for twenty-five minutes.  Afterwards, anyone can volunteer to read her writing out loud. Everyone in the workshop will say what they like about the story and/or recall details they remember about the writing.  There's no homework--just fun, as students improve their ability to plan out longer writing, gather together ideas, and use strong motivation to improve their writing and narrative skills.
