Attention all budding historians! It's time to take the plunge and have a closer look at early history in Canada and Québec. In this eight-week FLEX course, students will learn about some of the important topics of Canadian history. A detailed list of topics covered can be found below. The week's content will be uploaded to the classroom by Monday evening (EST). This will include a slideshow presentation with pictures/ video/ reading suggestions and key information to be viewed by students, an overview study sheet PDF with discussion questions to help guide students in their learning and an occasional quiz of the week's content. Whenever possible, firsthand accounts will be provided through video or other media. My goal as your child's teacher is to have them retain the information of those who lived during those times and gain an empathetic understanding of the circumstances that shaped Canada as it is important to understand the lasting impacts that history has on our present world. Students will create a main lesson book entry including the week's lesson and personal artwork. This helps to solidify their understanding and retention of the topics covered. Please see the 'Homework' tab below for more information. Main lesson book entries are to be uploaded to the classroom so we can admire each other's work. Quizzes can be graded if requested. Students are required to have their cameras on to allow the teacher to check in and verify each learner. After check-in, students have the option of either turning off their camera or leaving it on, whatever their preference is. Missed Classes & Refunds All our classes are backed by the ‘Limited’ refund policy. Parents may withdraw up to a week before class starts with a full refund OR within 24 hours of purchase. In the event a learner misses a class, recordings are made available in each classroom. Students are more than welcomed to reach out for any questions and share their work in the classroom. Late/ Missed Class All classes will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message in the classroom and exit after ten minutes of waiting per Outschool policy. Minimum Enrolment & Class Cancellation A minimum of two learners is required for every class to run. In the event that we have to cancel a class, parents will be notified within 24 hours of class. Learners will have the option of either transferring to a more populated section of the same class or receiving a full refund, whichever is preferred. Technical Difficulties In the event of class delay/ cancellations due to unforeseeable technical issues, all families will be notified and a make-up section will be posted, or a refund will be issued if a make-up class cannot be scheduled.

Orientación para padres
This course will at times deal with sensitive matters such as, colonization and the wrongful treatment of indigenous and black cultures which is relevant to Canadian history. I strive to relay the stories of those impacted by these events in a respectful and empathetic manner using age-appropriate firsthand accounts whenever possible.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students are encouraged to take notes if that helps their learning. Prompts to help students follow along with the lessons will also be provided during each class which students can either print or have open on another device in order to complete their assignments. They will also need a main lesson book or sketch book and artistic media of choice to complete assignments.

Hello Parents and Students!
My name is Mrs Stefanie and I am a teacher here at Outschool and a homeschooling mother of 4! My passion for history started young while listening to my grandfather's stories about being a pilot, helping to map Canada's wild north and his experiences during WW2. I have completed many continuing education history courses including Indigenous Canada (Alberta University) covering history from pre-contact to the 20th century. I will continue to expand my knowledge to feed my passions and to share them with others. My lessons are factually based using a variety of trusted sources on each subject as well as include age-appropriate firsthand perspectives whenever possible to present the student with as complete a representation as possible of the subject matter covered. I have been teaching and homeschooling for 13+ years to children aged 1 - 18 in all subjects but I'm most passionate about visual arts, nature sciences and history. I love to help my students create in order to retain the subject matter presented. I look forward to accompanying you on your learning journey!
