Each student must have a copy of the book. Students will review and discuss a new chapter each week. It is a story of hope, inspiration and courage. We will read the first half of the book, which consists of six chapters. Another class for the second half of the book will be offered on the same day/time to finish the entire book. Students will be given an assignment to go along with the chapter at the end of each class. I will introduce and possibly start the activity in class, modeling instructions and allowing time for questions. Each class will end with a jeopardy or group game that reviews materials. Students will finish assignments during the week. Students should bring them to class and will have the opportunity to share their work at the start of each class.

Orientación para padres
Due to the nature of slavery & oppression of Africans/ Black people, it is highly suggested that families view and discuss the chapter either in advance or following the class to address any concerns. This is one reason why all families are required to have a copy of the text as well. All content will be addressed sensitively and age appropriately.
