Course Overview:
Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Impressionism, the revolutionary art movement that transformed the way we see and paint the world. In this 5-week online course, you'll explore the techniques and masterpieces of famous Impressionist artists while developing your own artistic skills.

Each week, you'll focus on a renowned Impressionist painter, studying their unique brushwork, color palette, and approach to light. Through guided painting exercises, you'll practice these techniques and create your own Impressionist-inspired artwork.

By the end of the course, you'll gain a deeper understanding of Impressionism and enhance your ability to capture movement, light, and emotion in your paintings. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, this course will help you loosen your brushwork, experiment with color, and embrace the beauty of Impressionist art.

This course introduces students to Impressionism, focusing on its history, key characteristics, and influential artists.

Claude Monet: Students will explore Monet’s role in Impressionism, analyzing Water Lilies and Impression, Sunrise. 

They will create landscape paintings using his techniques of light, color, and short brushstrokes.

Edgar Degas & Movement: Degas' depictions of dancers and horse races highlight capturing motion. 

Students will study The Ballet Class and The Dance Lesson, then create artwork emphasizing movement and perspective using pastels or bold brushstrokes.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir & Color in Portraiture: Renoir’s warm tones and vibrant colors in portraits will be examined through Luncheon of the Boating Party and Bal du Moulin de la Galette. 

Students will paint portraits focusing on light and color.

Mary Cassatt & Everyday Life: Cassatt’s tender portrayals of women and children, seen in The Child’s Bath and Mother and Child, will guide students in painting intimate family scenes with soft colors and brushwork.

The course concludes with an Impressionist Style Gallery, where students create and present a final painting that showcases their mastery of Impressionist techniques.
