1-2 horas por semana. To remove the stress of what is sometimes a very daunting course of study, your learners will not have tests, quizzes, or formal grades in the class. Instead, I utilize positive verbal critiques to provide feedback and encourage improvement. However, if grades are requested I will provide them via rubrics that will suggest a grade. Learners progress will be gauged by the completion of their assignments, execution of techniques, contributions in critique sessions, and their class presence (being on-time, listening when I am speaking, and how they communicate with peers).Certificado de finalización
Young artists can earn a certificate of completion in any of my multi-week courses. Certificates of completion are a great way to document mastery of skills and can be useful for school applications or resumes. Qualifying students will receive a certificate as a PDF document through the learner conversations tab on Outschool within a week after submission of their final project. To earn a certificate of completion students must: • Attend all classes (or otherwise make up the lesson) • Submit all completed in-class exercises, assignments, and final projects via the learner tab by one week after the course endsExperiencia de clase
In the old days of painting, there was a hierarchy of genre that would determine the importance and rank of a work of art. At the top were history paintings, large magnificent works that told the story of a historical, mythological, or religious event. The bottom of the hierarchy included still lives and genre paintings that were useful for artists’ practice but were not popular with buyers or institutions. In the middle of the hierarchy was landscape painting, treated as an interesting, but not a very desired kind of artwork. How could this be so, when today some of the most popular paintings are the landscapes of Monet, van Gogh, Cezanne, Rousseau, and O’Keeffe among dozens of others? The simplest answer to this question is that these famous artists did something new with landscapes. They didn’t paint landscapes to practice creating scenes for history paintings or because of a commission from a patron. Instead, they made landscapes personal. These artists looked at the land, at nature, and they aspired to depict these scenes with the emotions that they felt while they looked. The most successful works by these artists are so immersive, a viewer can almost smell the floral lilies in a Monet or feel the cool breeze of a van Gogh. How to Oil Paint: Intermediate is a 15- week course designed to teach young artists the essentials of painting landscapes from photo references and capture the emotion within their references, just like the famous landscape artists we know today. This course will begin with two lessons dedicated to drawing, as every painting starts with good drawing skills. Then, young artists will go through a series of lessons where they learn essential skills for landscape painting, such as painting masses, creating value patterns, and color vibration through a combination of demonstrations and lectures. In addition, we will use PowerPoint presentations to learn some of the history of landscape painting, analyze famous landscapes, and gain inspiration for our own work. Once young artists are prepped and practiced with these essential techniques, they will put their skills to the test by painting a variety of landscape scenes. They will complete four landscapes on canvas by the end of the course.

Lección 4:
Week 4: Values in Landscape Painting
The fourth lesson will teach young artists how to plan and paint values within a painting. Much like our drawing lesson focused on values, we will separate masses into simplified values. However, we will move from just using four values and jump into using six. We will start by painting a value scale to use a reference, then utilize photo references to draw in the masses.

I am delighted to be able to offer classes that emphasize fine art techniques through the lens of observational drawing. Observational art is a method of learning to draw with three principles in mind: understanding of the subject, building looking skills, and practice of artistic technique. Through this method and practice, learners can draw anything. Completion of my courses will result in a learner who is engaged with art and understands basic art technique. Even students who are not aspiring artists have much to gain from drawing, including improvement of hand-eye coordination and hand dexterity skills.
Along with my bachelor’s degree in art history and studio art from a premier liberal arts institution in Ohio, I also have been teaching since 2016. My online teaching career began on Outschool in 2017. I have taught homeschoolers, unschoolers, and undergraduate students of all ages. My background in art history means that my classes are created with an understanding of historical precedence- I’m teaching what I know works! Many of my classes include examples of important artworks from masters for students to examine and learn skills from. In addition, my many years of teaching art have helped me curate concise and logical drawing curriculum that young artists can easily pick up and apply to their work. Every art class I teach hopes to provide learners with all the knowledge and support they need to grow as an artist.
