Nivel Beginner
In this class, we will feed your learner's curiosity through video-based lessons that explore the arts, health, literature, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, science, or social studies. By using Ted-Ed talks to introduce the topic, our discussion will encourage your learner to think critically and dig deeper into interesting subjects. While this ongoing class will follow the same format each week, the topics will change weekly. Class Format In class, we will first review the introduction summary and provide our initial reactions to the video. We will use an interactive class discussion approach to dig deeper into the content. We will look at possible real-world applications for the material and how it relates to our own experiences. Finally, we will complete the one-page summary sheet with the key takeaways from the video and discussion. January 8: Does My Dog Know What I'm Thinking (Science) January 15: Inside a Cartoonist's World (Art) January 22: Why don't Haircuts Hurt? (Science) January 29: How does your body know you're hungry (Health) Each month, new topics will be posted. Students will be given choices on what subjects they wish to explore within parameters set by the teacher. All video subjects will be specifically geared toward elementary-age students.

According to Common Sense Media, TED-Ed offers short videos on a variety of topics that support critical thinking. Students are encouraged to think, explore, and discuss what they see in meaningful ways.

Learners should watch the video prior to class. Print the worksheet provided in the classroom. Please bring the worksheet and a pencil to class. Any other materials for activities associated with the topic will be listed with the topic video. They may include easy-to-find materials, such as glue or tape, scissors, paper, and, colored pencils or crayons.
