Estimated time spent outside of class: No time outside of class is required, as all activities and assessments will be completed during the class. Students may spend an additional 5-10 minutes reviewing their notes or reflecting on their findings if desired. Form of Evaluation: Students will be evaluated based on their participation in the hands-on experiments, the accuracy of their observations, and their contribution to group discussions. They will also be assessed on their ability to analyze data and use evidence to draw conclusions. Method for Feedback & Grading: I will provide real-time feedback during the class, offering guidance as students conduct their experiments and interpret their findings. While no formal grading will be given, students will receive a Forensic Scientist Certificate upon completing the class, recognizing their efforts and understanding of forensic science concepts.Certificado de finalización

Class Experience: In this interactive mystery powder lab, students will step into the role of forensic scientists to solve the case of the missing cake in a crime scene kitchen setting. Through hands-on science experiments, they will conduct chemical tests on various kitchen powders, such as baking soda and flour, to identify the mystery substance left behind. This class promotes critical thinking, keen observation skills, and the ability to record scientific data accurately. What will be taught? Students will learn how to perform simple chemical tests using household powders and apply forensic science techniques to solve the mystery. They will also develop skills in scientific observation, data recording, and logical reasoning while engaging in science experiments. What topics will you cover? Introduction to forensic science and mystery-solving. Conducting chemical tests on powders found in the kitchen. Applying critical thinking to analyze test results and crack the case. How is your class structured? The class begins with an engaging introduction to forensic science and the details of the mystery. I will guide students through step-by-step interactive experiments, where they will test kitchen powders, observe their reactions, and record results. The class wraps up with a collaborative discussion where students share findings and work together to solve the mystery. At the end, students will receive a Forensic Scientist Certificate to celebrate their achievement. How will I teach? My teaching style emphasizes interactive, hands-on learning. Students will conduct their own experiments using household items, with my step-by-step guidance. I focus on inquiry-based learning, encouraging students to explore and investigate while building confidence in scientific methods. What’s my teaching style? I create a supportive, engaging environment where students feel inspired to ask questions and express their ideas. As a certified teacher in Arizona and Kentucky, I specialize in inquiry-based science lessons that foster curiosity, problem-solving skills, and a passion for hands-on science. How much will learners interact with me? Students will engage with me throughout the class, following my guidance during experiments and participating in discussions. The class is designed to be highly interactive, ensuring students have ample opportunities to ask questions, share observations, and collaborate in solving the case.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will explore chemical reactions and cause-and-effect relationships through hands-on testing, aligning with NGSS practices.
Students will engage in argument from evidence, using their results to support conclusions about the mystery powder.
