This is a class for youths who are shy or have trouble connecting with their peers. I run social groups for autistic children and I have had parents reach out asking me to do one for kids who are shy as well. Students will participate in conversations with their peers. I will encourage them to talk about their special interests and get to know one another. I will also provide games for the children to play together and help guide their conversation when needed. This is a great way for children to make friends and build social skills. Students with all levels of verbal ability are welcome but students who do not a have a way to communicate over video chat will likely not get much from the group. If you have any concerns please contact me and I will try my best to make sure your child can participate in whatever form of communication they use. Class is student lead and each week will look different but here is a basic outline. Students will introduce themselves and say their name, age and something they are interested in or enjoy doing. Each student will have a chance to tell us what they have been doing lately and share anything they would like to share. I will pose a fun question such as "if you could go anywhere in the world where would it be?" Or what "fictional character would you be best friends with and why?" Or we will play a game like 20 questions, would you rather, or two truths and a lie."

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
My name is Gabrielle, I started teaching sewing lessons when I was a homeschool senior. I taught classes at a local home school group and discovered I had a passion for teaching. When I was 19 I discovered I was most likely autistic and was able to get an official diagnosis at 21. For me, this was a revelation and explained so much. It meant I was able to seek out others like me and was a huge game-changer for me.
For over 10 years now I have been teaching in different capacities and working with children with different disabilities and differences. I have been an in-home caregiver for a physically disabled child, a preschool teacher, a teacher's aid, a tutor and have been teaching online since January 2020. I also have an Associates' degree in special education.
I am proud to be autistic. This doesn't mean I don't have struggles but I firmly believe that we all have strengths and weaknesses. I strive to give all of my students a safe and welcoming place. All of my classes are inclusive which means students of all abilities are welcome. If your student needs any accommodations please let me know and we will work together to ensure the best possible class experience.
