This is a beginner phonics course. Students do not need to have any knowledge of the letters or letter sounds prior to enrolling in this class.. Each week we will learn 6-7 letters of the alphabet and their sounds, and then play a Kahoot game to reinforce the letter sounds. There will be two to three pre-recorded videos uploaded each week to teach the letter names and sounds. In this class, we will use the most common or basic sound for each letter. We will only cover short vowel sounds in this course, as they are the sounds used in the most basic words and word parts. The teacher will use slides with visuals to help the students learn and remember each letter sound, and the teacher and students will move their bodies to make the letters. Below are the letters we will cover each week, as well as an example word with the sound of the letter that will be taught. Learning these sounds will lay the foundation for beginning to read CVC words. After each video, students will play a scavenger hunt game to find items around the house that begin with the target letter sounds. They may also draw the letter friends and upload their pictures to the classroom.
