Class Experience

In this class students will explore all aspects and learn the foundations of Ukulele playing. Ukulele can be played as a melody instrument or chords to accompany others or themselves singing or playing melodies. The first week we will learn how to read a chord chart and play our first songs with chords as well as our string names and how to play them melodically. The second week we will add two new chords and will talk about how to change from chord to chord with different strumming patterns. Week three will focus on moving fluidly from chord to chord and will introduce a fourth chord and how to read and play individual notes. The fourth through sixth weeks will use increasingly more interesting songs to help become more comfortable with moving from chord to chord. Ukulele has become the newest craze in schools because it is such an easily assessable instrument to learn and to feel good about playing alone or with a group. It is also an amazingly fun instrument to learn as a second instrument as you can learn so much so quickly. It has also become accepted as a versatile instrument that can perform many genres. Learners will leave this class able to play four or five chords and knowing how to play songs with chords over lyrics and video play alongs. Ms. Becky will be playing at all times during classses. Students will be playing individually with their mics muted and with their mics on for the class and Ms. Becky. Music will be on the screen through an online book and powerpoint and all students will be monitored by Ms. Becky at all times as they play and grow so that she can provide the best feedback possible.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to tune, read and play melodically, read and perform chords and multiple options for strumming.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
With the younger kids, parents may be needed at the beginning with finger placement. I will also explain what parents can do to help those who are more visual learners succeed more easily at home.
Supply List
An Ukulele that is able to be tuned is required. There are "toy" ukulele's out there that are untunable and therefore cannot hold a pitch. Please check reviews before purchasing an Uke. We will use an online method book you will have access to at home.
