Description
Class Experience
The key components to social and emotional learning (SEL) are: -Self Awareness: Students can identify their own emotions and thoughts and recognize how they influence behavior and mood. -Emotional Processing: The ability to make space for our emotions rather than suppressing them. This includes recognizing and labeling emotions as they arise, managing stressful emotions, controlling impulses, and motivating oneself to work towards goals. -Social Awareness and Empathy: Understanding social and ethical behavioral norms, recognizing your support system, and being able to empathize and take the perspective of others regardless of differences. -Relationship Skills: The ability to establish and maintain healthy relationships. This includes cooperating with others, communicating effectively, actively listening, setting and respecting boundaries, negotiating conflict in a constructive manner, and giving and receiving help and support when needed. -Responsible Decision Making: Making healthy choices involving personal behavior and social interactions through realistic evaluation of consequences, consideration of ethical standards, safety concerns, social norms, and the health and wellbeing of self and others.
I am a 200-hour registered yoga teacher and certified Yoga EQ (Yoga for Emotional Intelligence) leader. I hold a Master of Arts in Transpersonal Psychology degree and have more than 3 years experience working as a school-based mental health therapist for Pre-K-12 students.
Students should bring a journal and writing utensil to every class. Yoga mats are highly encouraged but not required. Water bottle is also recommended.
1 hour 10 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents may want to remain nearby to monitor for safety and help prevent injury that could occur if children are not properly supervised. Yoga mats are highly recommended for class, but not required. Children should come to class dressed in comfortable clothing they can stretch in. Yoga is typically done barefoot. If your child wishes to wear shoes, athletic footwear is recommended. Children may wish to bring a water bottle to class to stay hydrated.
