Intermediate Level
This is a mental skills training course for athletes based on the research from the field of sport psychology. Students will be taught mental skills that professional and Olympic athletes use to achieve optimal performance. It will be tailored to what sport the student plays. Background and research on why the skill is important will be provided. I will talk with the student on how to modify the skill to fit their specific sport and situation. The student will have plenty of time to ask questions. This is a great series of classes for serious athletes who want to improve their performance, improve their consistency, and are striving to reach their full potential. This provides a sample of how the topics will covered. The Week of March 28: Introduction to Sport Psychology and Mental Skills Training and Why it is important. The Week of April 4: Confidence and Self-talk The Week of April 11: Mental Imagery The Week of April 18: Concentration The Week of April 25: Peak Performance The Week of May 2: Relaxation Training The Week of May 9: Putting It All Together

This class is for serious athletes or performing artists who want to improve their performance and consistency in practices and competitions.

I have a bachelor of science in psychology. I have a master's degree in sport psychology from Florida State University and a master's degree in school counseling from Loyola University. I worked with the track and field athletes at Florida State University as a performance consultant for 2 years and the track and field athletes at Loyola for a year. I ran track and was on the cross country team at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. I loved sports since the time I started playing ice hockey when I was 4. I have also played golf, basketball, baseball, track and field, cross country, and ultimate frisbee.
