Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner - Advanced Level
Writing is a journey of self-development and self-discovery. This self-paced course guides learners on four (plus a bonus warm-up) mini journeys to build solid paragraphs and solid brain connections to make writing meaningful in daily life.

Set in the beauty of nature with a journey motif, the course meets United States educational standards while connecting these writing skills to daily living.

The course was created for learners who are interested or experienced in my longer writing journeys, but need quicker strength-building exercises right now; learners who need a "bunny hill" beginning before climbing the "mountain" with me; and learners in my live classes who are looking for supplemental writing practice or a more flexible schedule of English language arts homework assignments.

Learners can pace themselves and complete several mini journeys in a week as a bootcamp, or use the course over a series of weeks.

Each mini journey will consist of a 3-5 minute video and a worksheet. Learners will also be offered optional videos in each lesson to customize their experience -- level-up videos will provide additional writing tips and techniques for learners who want a challenge, and power-up videos will give additional support for learners who want help with the assignment.

Learners can also customize their interaction with this streamlined, process-oriented, low-tech writing class. The course stays within the Outschool platform for simplicity and structure, and learners can complete the homework by:
1. downloading the PDF, completing the worksheet, and uploading the completed work (by document scan or photo) to the teacher for feedback, OR
2. typing the assignment and sending to the teacher as a classroom post or direct message, OR
3. using personal paper and sending (by document scan or photo) to the teacher for feedback.

All completed assignments that are submitted to the teacher within the timeframe will receive feedback and guidance. Parents are invited to customize their learners' feedback experience by sending me the feedback survey in the welcome email you will receive upon enrollment.

Throughout the course, I will model writing and working through each assignment in print handwriting, and learners are welcome to use print, cursive or typing for their own work.

Most of all, I hope all of my learners feel connected and accompanied where they are so that they will be encouraged and strengthened to take the next steps in their thinking and writing skills. As always, please contact me directly if there is a way that I can accommodate your learner to make the material serve your needs.

Learning Goals

Learners will brainstorm, plan and write solid paragraphs centered around descriptive, creative, informative and reflective writing skills.

As the author of the "Emotebook" and a freelance writer for over 20 years, I have relied on language arts skills as the building blocks of a happy career. As a masters level psychology graduate, I incorporate expertise in developing whole-brain connections including metacognition, and IQ-EQ skills that not only support English language arts, but also our broader daily lives. I also worked full-time as an associate editor for three years, which helped me gain real-world expertise in the nuances of English language arts and experience guiding authors of all levels. I am walking the language arts journey with my three children while homeschooling them, as well as with hundreds (600 and counting!) of other students in various grades. I also earned my TESOL certification to bridge the gap between cultures by teaching English as a second language to hundreds of international students. I look forward to this writing journey with you!
