Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
This class will focus on the editing process of writing. Students are encourage to bring a sample writing piece (that is written by them). Students will need to have a prerequisite skill of knowing how to complete a writing piece. Together, we will engage in the writing process, focusing on editing and revising. Students will be introduced to tools and steps to take to successfully edit and revise samples of writing to better enhance their writing skills on their specific writing sample and future work. Specifically, we will focus on editing grammar, punctuation, source citing, organization, and word choice (diction). These 5 topics are key to strengthening any writing piece. I believe that students best learn through relating new topics to something they are familiar. This is why it is imperative that they provide a sample writing that they have written. It will show the students how to enhance a writing piece through the editing and revising process, by engaging in the process in their own piece of writing that they are familiar with. Students will first read aloud their writing, to better hear their writing in a different form than reading silently. We will review the steps of editing, then begin to edit their writing, focusing on grammar, punctuation, source citing, organization, and word choice.
