Class Experience

Hello, learners and welcome to Write On!
In this new creative writing club, participate in some fun writing challenges with a mixture of individual and collaborative activities. The class agenda has been extended from four to now eight different activities, outlined below. We'll do one activity per week. When we finish all eight, we'll start again with new examples!

THE ACTIVITIES:
*Picture Prompt (Individual)
This activity is exactly as it sounds. I'll show you an image to use as inspiration for a short story. The picture could be anything from animals to a city street to a national landmark. Your story can be funny, weird, suspenseful, whatever you want.
*Once Upon a Time, The End (Individual)
In this challenge, I'll give you two random sentences: one to start your story and one to end it. The goal is to write the middle, and try to connect these two sentences together somehow.
*Add This! (Collaborative)
Imagine if The Three Little Pigs had to fight off zombies. What if the Goldilocks had Spiderman as a sidekick? That's the challenge this week. We'll take a well known story and add *something* randomly. It might be another character, another location, a line of dialog, a random item, etc.
*What Would ___ Do? (Individual)
Think of your favorite character. It could be from a show, movie, book, whatever, and put that character into a random scene with a problem to solve. Maybe they have to escape from something? Maybe they have to land an airplane full of people? Maybe they have to convince someone to do something? How would this character act? What would they say or do?
*The 26 Sentence Story (Collaborative)
For the 26 Sentence Story, or ABC story, we'll need to work together to create a story where each sentence starts with the next letter of the alphabet. Simple example: A hungry teen was craving fast food. Burger King was closed. Can you believe it?! :)
*Word Wars (Individual & Collaborative)
If you're one of my Weird Writers, this will look somewhat familiar. For Word Wars, I'll give you five random words and the challenge is to put all of them in ONE sentence. Then all of you will vote on the sentence you like best and the winner will choose the next set of words.
*Judge a Book By Its Cover (Collaborative)
Today we're doing someone you're told not to do. I'll show you a real book cover, and together, based on the title and image, discuss what you think this book is about, including the genre, time period, etc. Then you can decide if you'd want to read this book.
*Create a Character (Individual)
In this challenge, take a look at a person/animal/thing, and answer questions about this character. Give them a name, greatest strength and weakness, special powers, etc. in order to build a character just based on a picture.

General Class Info:
*Maximum of only 5 learners! Think of this class as a writing club. You should have at least SOME interest in writing if you want to join.

*Expect a laid-back atmosphere. For the individual writing activities, if you want to snack while you write or sit on the floor or listen to music (as long as we can't hear it, that is), then fine by me. Whatever helps you get in the zone. :)

*Cameras can stay off if you prefer, but only after I confirm you're not a ghost or alien or something.

*Be kind!!! It takes courage to share something you've written. Sharing is always optional, but always be respectful of each other's work and ideas. You can also post your writing in the classroom if you don't want to read it aloud.

Schedule:
Even though the topics will repeat after 8 weeks, they will still have new prompts/photos/examples to get a different result each time. Since this is an on-going course, each class stands on its own, so you can join any week without feeling like you've missed something.

Hello, Outschool! My name is Teacher Lauren, and I'm so happy to meet you.

My Outschool schedule includes a variety of English classes. Want to learn some literary terms? Try The Literary Twists and Turns of the Twilight Zone! Want to write something weird? Try Weird Writing Weekly or One Weird Writing. Want to write about your cat? Try Cat Tales! Or maybe you're looking for more of a challenge? Try a class in the Write Now, Right Now Series! Whichever class you choose, you are sure to have fun and learn something new in the process.

Most of my classes are 5 learners or less, especially for my writing classes. I prefer smaller groups for a more personalized class, where your voice matters. I want you to feel like you're part of a writing club, not lost in a sea of students. I encourage interaction and sharing ideas, all in a friendly and laid-back space.
