Explore creative writing and write your own pieces in this interactive, imaginative summer creative writing club for teens. Students will get a fun new "mystery prompt" each week, write in class, and participate in the feedback process.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Follows Teacher-Created Curriculum
Aligned with Advanced Placement (AP) Standards
  • Students will improve their understanding of how to write creative fiction and nonfiction pieces, learn skills for writing at the high school and college level, and discover what it is like to take part in a creative writing workshop or feedback process.
I earned an English BA from the University of Central Florida, concentrating on Creative Writing and English Literature. I received a Creative Writing Instructor certificate from UCF based on teaching over 100 hours of creative writing to K-12 students. I have hundreds of hours of experience teaching nonfiction, fiction, and poetry writing to kids and adults. I have experience taking the AP English Language and Composition exam successfully and have experience teaching the concepts outlined in the exam.

Details: This is designed as a week-to-week enrichment club, so students can attend for one week or the entire summer. For this reason, students are entitled to personalized writing feedback for each week they are enrolled in the class. If you are enrolled for multiple weeks (e.g., 8 weeks), you can opt to receive teacher feedback each week or less feedback, so the class still feels fun and creative and we don't overwhelm the student. For example, you could opt for 3-4 pieces of feedback for 8 weeks total. I will gauge the interest of each parent to create a plan that works for you. In these assessments, I will not provide a grade. Rather, I offer customized and thoughtful written feedback and suggestions for future writing. The student will submit the piece to me through a private message, I will evaluate it, then send it back to them.
This is an ideal class for students 14-17 YO who previously completed a 9th-grade (or equivalent) ELA class. Most students are familiar with/enjoy creative writing or writing prompts.
Students should have materials to write with during classtime. This can be a laptop, a tablet with a keyboard, a pen and paper, or a pencil and a notebook - whatever they are comfortable with. Please let me know if you have any questions.
