Welcome to The Author's Corner! In this continuing club, students will discover a welcoming and friendly community of writers to connect with and exchange ideas. Whether seeking assistance, encouragement, or simply a listening ear, this is the ideal space. I am committed to maintaining a positive and encouraging atmosphere for all members and supporting students in achieving their goals. The students will know when they enter my classroom that I care and am here to help them any way I can with their writing. Members engage socially, boost personal confidence, and form bonds with fellow students, fostering positive peer interactions. I will focus mostly on the joy of writing, emphasizing content and nurturing creativity—a departure from my role as a public school teacher for a brief time. This is a chance for students to use their imagination and creativity in a supportive, friendly atmosphere. In this supportive environment, learners' work remains private, freeing them from the pressure of correctness and allowing them to unleash their creativity and develop compelling storylines. Students will be reminded of grammar and punctuation as we write, however every 8th class will be an editing and revising class. In this class the student's will bring their favorite story they would like to make better. I will focus my lesson on a grammar skill and the students will revise their own paper. For example: I will conduct a mini lesson on sentence structure and what a run on sentence is as well as a fragment. The students will then read over their papers focusing on that skill and correcting where necessary. I will answer any questions to help them, plus they are always welcome to submit their stories to me for feedback. As children grow to love creative writing and hone their skills, they naturally become stronger writers overall, and the prospect of writing essays becomes less daunting for them. Class Breakdown 10 minutes- Ice Breaker 20 minutes - Weekly topic and writing idea I will introduce the writing topic and prompt for the class. Discuss it briefly then the students are given time to write and discuss ideas. 15 minutes - Students are given the opportunity to share their writing first, then they have a chance to share anything they would like to share with the class. This is all volunteer and they are never made to share if they would not like to. At the end of each class, the students will be encouraged to set one positive goal for themselves for the upcoming week. It can be academic or personal, shared encouraged but not mandatory. *The class is 45 minutes long, however sometimes it might go over if the students are visiting. I will wait up to 10 minutes if possible for them to finish. **It is preferable for students to have their cameras on, it provides a more engaging experience for everyone.
