Class Experience

Hello, my amazing writers! Does writing a research paper sound daunting to you? In this 4-week flex class, we will break down the process into bite-sized pieces! Each student will begin by choosing an animal that they'd like to research. We will learn how to choose a topic, how to figure out which sources we use to gather information about our chosen animal, and how to write down and organize our thoughts. Students will also get the opportunity to complete a fun "challenge" each week!

Here are the topics for this class:
Week 1: Choose a topic for your research paper + KWL Chart (We will begin by making a list of animals we'd like to learn more about. Students will each get to choose an animal they'd like to research. We will learn about the purpose of a KWL chart, and every student will complete one for their chosen animal.).
Week 2: Sources & Research + Begin researching/writing research paper. (We will learn about reputable sources, and students will begin researching/writing their research paper. Research paper format will include the following: characteristics, habitat, diet, the animal's life cycle, and offspring. We will work on "Characteristics" this week.).
Week 3: Continue to research/write! (We will work on "Habitat" and "Diet" this week).
Week 4: Continue to research/write! (We will work on "Life cycle" and "Offspring" this week).
Week 5: Complete research paper, finish KWL Chart, and "Present"! (Students "present" their research paper!).

Teacher Interaction: I will be uploading the instructional video(s) and worksheets every Monday. I am available daily to answer any questions and will be actively monitoring and commenting on uploaded work within the classroom.

Student Interaction: Learners will be able to upload their completed worksheets/writing papers for the class to see and comment on. Learners will also complete a weekly "challenge" where they will complete a task and post "proof" of the task in the classroom (this may be in the form of a photo, a hand drawn picture, etc.). Students will have the option to "present" their research paper via video.

Please message me if you have any questions or concerns.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hey y'all!

I'm a former Kindergarten and First Grade teacher. I taught for 9 years in the public education system and have currently taught online for the past 2 years. I graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington with a Kinesiology degree, and I LOVE all things science.

I teach Science, Math, and Reading classes for young learners. I'm passionate about breaking down complicated topics into bite-sized pieces that are easy to understand. Learning for littles should be fun with lots of hands-on opportunities!

My favorite hobbies are reading, cooking, gardening, and horseback riding. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me. I hope to see you in my classroom soon!
