It is good if students have taken my first course Word Work Session 1, but isn't required. Students will need paper and pencil or a whiteboard to interact with the new rules taught. I will send a new list for students to sort and work with throughout the week. It is a class to help students generalize spelling rules and sounds to help when spelling any words with the sounds covered. We will talk about the spelling rules and review general phonic sounds needed to master the new rules. Students can access my Spelling City and practice lists and take tests. They will be given a link and do not need an account. Please look at sample words on lists to see if your child is ready or is past the spelling skills being taught before you sign up. Week 1: Short E and Long E -Vowel Patterns-- sample words: keep, weak, teach Week 2: Review of Spelling Patterns from Session 1 and 2; Sample Words: scoop, rail, beast Week 3:
Learning Goals
Students will learn to spell by patterns and learn exceptions. It is not about memorizing words for a spelling test on Friday. It is about learning rules and sounds to carry over to writing.

I am currently a 4-6th grade English teacher, but have taught 1st through 6th grades at some time during my 12 years teaching. I enjoy teaching all of the Language Arts. This includes Writing, Reading, Grammar and Spelling. I have TESOL Certificate from International Open Academy. I also have a certification for an Orton Gillingham method called Structured Linguistics.
I love to have fun in the classroom and you can often see me making my students laugh and enjoy learning. I love to sing and make up catchy tunes to remember new information.
I have a degree in Elementary Education with minors in Language Arts and Science. I believe in active participation to foster learning. I value learning styles and do my best to involve students in their own learning.
I enjoy reading, snowshoeing, downhill skiing and being with my children. I have 8 children of my own whose ages range from 8 to 20. I have lots of experience with kids of all ages and personalities. I cannot wait to meet your child.
