In this ongoing weekly social club, learners will have fun meeting new friends, socializing and improving their fine motor skills and creativity by building with clay, play doh or sand! Each week, we will briefly cover a different theme and allow each child the chance to share, if they are comfortable doing so. Then, learners will be given time to build with their "doh" or sand, while also getting to share their ideas and creations. I will prompt students with some different questions, but they will also be able to ask questions and give (kind) feedback to each other on their designs. This is a laid-back time to have fun building together and practicing social skills at the same time! No child will be pressured to respond or unmute if they do not wish to, but everyone will be given the opportunity to contribute meaningfully.

Themes will change weekly, and will also incorporate some phonics and letter sound practice as well - which will be optional. Due to the social nature of this class, as well as the learners' age range, our conversations and creations may veer off the weekly theme, and that's okay! My goal is for learners to enjoy expressing themselves and be proud of what they are making, while also working on social and fine motor skills without even realizing it. Learners may join or leave this group at any time. If you do not see a time that works for you, please reach out to me, and I will do my best to work with your schedule!

All classes will begin promptly at the start time.

Hello! I am Ms. Katie. I teach classes of different interests and topics for young learners. I have a passion for this age group and love to interact with my students in fun and engaging ways!

I believe that learning should be FUN and that even our youngest learners should have the opportunity to express themselves while developing and following their own interests. I strive to make my classroom a safe, engaging space where all learners feel comfortable doing so. I also believe in tailoring learning to a student's development, interests, and abilities. I have enjoyed the freedom to provide such educational experiences to my own children whom I homeschool, and love doing the same for my learners now on Outschool!

I have taught in a variety of settings and environments for the last 13 years. I have been a teacher for over 10 years. I spent 9 years in the public education system as a classroom teacher, 3 in 3rd grade and 6 in Kindergarten. I taught the entire 2020-21 school year virtually, to 50 Kindergarten students! I have years of experience in learning support, gifted support, autism support, emotional support. I have also helped to run an outdoor, nature-centered camp for children ages 4-14. I served as an Envirothon coach for grades 3 and 4, and helped to start and run a "Storybook STEM" club for elementary aged children. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and my Master's Degree in Education. I am also a Google Certified Educator.

On a personal note, I love being outside, hiking, reading, traveling, baking, and being a mom to my own 3 young children who also love to take classes on Outschool.
