Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Welcome to our virtual road trip! In this ongoing class, we will visit 15 different US National Parks; 1 each week. Although this is entitled part 2," you do not need to have taken part 1 to enjoy this trip. We will discover each park's wildlife, plant life, history, fun facts, popular trails and features, and more! I am passionate about this topic and visit at least one National Park each year with my family. I can't wait to take this road trip with your learners!

In addition to learning lots of information about each National Park we visit, there will be plenty of opportunities for learner interaction and participation. There will be "Trailhead Trivia" stops in each class, where students get to participate in trivia questions to check for retention and comprehension of material covered. We will also have "Ranger Danger“ alerts, where we will learn about the potential hazards in each park, as well as safety tips for visiting the parks. Learners will also have an opportunity to share their experiences with and knowledge about each park we visit. Finally, during "Campfire Chronicles," students will hear stories and legends about the park they are visiting in each class. This is not your typical lecture-style course!

**There is no need to have attended a previous class before attending, as each class meeting will cover a different park and will not require prior knowledge.

Hello! I am Ms. Katie. I teach classes of different interests and topics for young learners. I have a passion for this age group and love to interact with my students in fun and engaging ways!

I believe that learning should be FUN and that even our youngest learners should have the opportunity to express themselves while developing and following their own interests. I strive to make my classroom a safe, engaging space where all learners feel comfortable doing so. I also believe in tailoring learning to a student's development, interests, and abilities. I have enjoyed the freedom to provide such educational experiences to my own children whom I homeschool, and love doing the same for my learners now on Outschool!

I have taught in a variety of settings and environments for the last 13 years. I have been a teacher for over 10 years. I spent 9 years in the public education system as a classroom teacher, 3 in 3rd grade and 6 in Kindergarten. I taught the entire 2020-21 school year virtually, to 50 Kindergarten students! I have years of experience in learning support, gifted support, autism support, emotional support. I have also helped to run an outdoor, nature-centered camp for children ages 4-14. I served as an Envirothon coach for grades 3 and 4, and helped to start and run a "Storybook STEM" club for elementary aged children. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and my Master's Degree in Education. I am also a Google Certified Educator.

On a personal note, I love being outside, hiking, reading, traveling, baking, and being a mom to my own 3 young children who also love to take classes on Outschool.
