Website Design + Graphic Design With Wordpress & Canva - Design Like a Pro!

In the 8 session class (4x/week for 75 minutes), students will learn how to design their own professional website using the world's most popular, powerful, and customizable web design program, Wordpress.  The students will also learn how to create professional graphics using the powerful and free graphic design program, Canva.  

Whether it's for school, sports, a club, family, or starting a business, website design and graphic design are a powerful combination of two amazing skills to have!

Students require no tech experience.  They only require an interest in web design and graphic design and the desire to learn how to use the online tools, Wordpress and Canva.  Knowledge of these tools will serve them in whatever career or hobby they choose in the future.

The website the children create will be just for fun to learn the tools, so it can be a website about a hobby, or a favorite subject, or a business, or a place to collate favorite videos, quotes,  and links, or a place to share photos.

The students will work on their websites as I teach, so they should use two devices during the class OR have a split screen.  They should login to our Classroom using the same device that they are working on so they can share their screen.

The best way for students to learn in this class is to apply the skills that I teach while I am teaching them, so it would be best if they use two devices during the class - one to watch me on like a phone, tablet, or other computer,  and another computer to follow along. 

Wordpress uses themes that can be simple or complex.  We will be learning how to create a simple website in this class using blocks to add dozens of features to the website.

Below is the schedule of the classes:

CLASS 1 - Sign up for a free website at  Wordpress.com, getting familiar with the admin panel of Wordpress, exploring themes and installing a theme.  Introduction to the backend of Wordpress and customizing the website theme.

CLASS 2 - Adding media, cropping,  creating pages, formatting page, links, introduction to blocks. Adding content to begin building the website.

CLASS 3 - Menus, blocks, columns, layout modes, viewing modes, images and photo galleries.

CLASS 4 - Lists, tables, buttons, separators, moving blocks.

CLASS 5 - Learn how to use Canva to create eye-catching graphics for the site including a banner and learning about templates, backgrounds, fonts,  the clip art gallery, colors, elements, sharing and saving files.  Design a header image, site icon, logo.

CLASS 6 - In Canva, learn about custom dimensions, download formats, uploading images to Wordpress.  Adding new pages in Wordpress, featured image, reviewing settings, customizations, exploring blocks.

CLASS 7 - Exploring various page layouts, images with links, heading blocks, slideshows.

CLASS  8 - Creating a blog, contact form, countdown timer, creating new pages, discussion of SEO.
