The Preamble to the U. S. Constitution is a brief introduction and statement of the Constitution's fundamental purposes and guiding principles. In this class, we will break down and discuss the six principles found within this short fifty-two-word proclamation that sets the foundation for the rest of the Constitution. The six principles discussed will be: 1. Form a more perfect union. 2. Establish justice. 3. Insure domestic tranquility. 4. Provide for the common defense. 5. Promote the general welfare. 6. Secure the blessings of liberty. The theory of a written constitution was a particularly American innovation. It was one that the framers considered this new nation’s greatest contribution to the scholarship of world government. By the end of this class, students will be able to understand these six principles, why they are important for setting the foundation for the rest of the U.S. Constitution, and the power the people hold in relation to the American system of Government.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree in Education from Liberty University
I've been a longtime advocate for teaching others about the power the American people hold concerning their government. I have studied and taught the history of voting rights and the Constitution in varying governmental agencies and in my community for decades. I have spent my life working with children and adults of diverse ages, experiential, educational, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. I have organized and motivated members of my community for decades; children, youth, and adults, from an array of backgrounds, to cultivate self-reliance and a responsibility to their country. I am passionate about the American Constitution.
Growing up I was what has famously been called a “Navy Brat”, having both my parents enlisted. I grew up understanding what the words, “We the People” mean and I hope to share that with your student.
I have a Master’s in counseling and am in the dissertation phase of a Doctorate in Education. Please see my full biography under my information.
