Votes for Women: The Suffragettes
Class experience
Long before women could hit the polling booths, send in mail-in ballots, or fill out a voter registration - our voices were silenced. The heroines known as the Suffragettes lived through this time and wanted change. In this one-time class, we will learn about their mission: Votes for Women. We will journey back in time to a place where women stood in solidarity and in protest. Students will learn about key women in this fight, the ways they suffered, the missions they defended, and the cause...
Women, as a general rule, were silenced and oppressed for many, many years. This class will talk about this and how women suffered at the hands of their oppressors beyond just wanting the right to vote. We will also touch on the fact that some of the women who fought for this cause refused to eat as an act of protest and, subsequently, were forced. As with all of my classes, I understand the tender nature of these topics and it is my commitment to you to deliver them with grace, grit, and truth.
