Long before women could hit the polling booths, send in mail-in ballots, or fill out a voter registration - our voices were silenced. The heroines known as the Suffragettes lived through this time and wanted change. In this one-time class, we will learn about their mission: Votes for Women. We will journey back in time to a place where women stood in solidarity and in protest. Students will learn about key women in this fight, the ways they suffered, the missions they defended, and the cause for which they fought. There were so many roles in this great and courageous movement - from the obvious, front line roles, to roles that went unseen. Students will learn about the Seneca Falls Convention, The National Women's Suffrage Association, and finally, the 19th Amendment! I will share a Google Slides presentation with pictures and text as I walk us through the lesson. The ability to have a conversation is one of my favorite parts of teaching, so students can expect open-ended questions and a lot of opportunities for discussion. While this period of time could be talked about for hours - this class will be an overview that touches on key elements. Thank you, Susan B. Anthony, Ida B. Wells and Elizabeth Cady Stanton for fighting the fight - and for the countless women who fought alongside (and behind) them to make sure I have the right to vote.

Parental Guidance
Women, as a general rule, were silenced and oppressed for many, many years. This class will talk about this and how women suffered at the hands of their oppressors beyond just wanting the right to vote. We will also touch on the fact that some of the women who fought for this cause refused to eat as an act of protest and, subsequently, were forced. As with all of my classes, I understand the tender nature of these topics and it is my commitment to you to deliver them with grace, grit, and truth.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I’m Amy and I LOVE teaching. I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and hold a bachelor's degree in education from Temple University. I started teaching online in December of 2016 and love it very much. Everyone has a desire to learn and I love helping young minds absorb all the amazing things they can. Education bridges a gap between wonder and knowledge and I’m honored to be a part of that journey for so many. Fun things about me? I’m a mom! I’m right-handed, a lover of history and English, an avid cook, and a sub-par baker. I love to explore and go on adventures, craft, and go on walks with my son and our two dogs. I can’t wait to meet your child!
