This 4-week course will explore the lives and impact of significant women throughout history. Students will use Canva and drawing techniques to create visually compelling storybooks that capture the essence of these women's contributions. The course emphasizes understanding the sociological contexts in which these women lived and how society's structure influenced their journeys. Course Objectives: • Understand the historical and sociological contexts of influential women. • Develop visual storytelling skills using Canva and drawing. • Create a fully illustrated storybook by the end of the course. • Engage in discussions about the societal impacts on these women’s lives. Every week for anyone new I will go over a quick introduction to visual storytelling & sociological perspectives while familiarizing students with Canva and the basics of visual storytelling. I will introduce the concept of sociological perspectives in the context of women's history. • Activities: ◦ Warm-up: Sketching game related to historical events. ◦ Lecture & Discussion: Overview of sociological perspectives and how they relate to the lives of women in history. ◦ Workshop: Canva tutorial—students begin drafting a page of their storybook, focusing on a woman from history. ******** Weekly Topic Examples: Week of Dec 2nd : Women of Courage – Visualizing Struggles and Triumphs • Objective: Explore the stories of women who have overcome significant societal barriers, focusing on their struggles and triumphs. Week of Dec 9 : Pioneers in Their Fields – Breaking Barriers • Objective: Focus on women who were pioneers in their fields and how their contributions changed society. Week of December 23: Global Changemakers – Women Across Cultures • Objective: Explore influential women from diverse cultural backgrounds who have shaped their communities and the world, emphasizing cross-cultural perspectives and global impact. ******* This course is designed with a flexible structure, allowing students to jump in at any week. Each week is independent, enabling students to focus on different women and their societal impacts. A session may incorporate Slides (like Power Point), but they would be short presentations and used in moderation in order to not lose students’ attention.

Hi! I’m Natalia! I have extensive teaching experience across various subjects, with a particular focus on teaching English in several countries, including Canada, Japan, and Spain. My teaching experience spans a diverse range of students, from small children to adults, business professionals, and individuals preparing for Oxford and Cambridge English Exams. I have also taught business English in corporate settings. Since 2017, I have exclusively taught all my classes online, finding it to be a more flexible and enjoyable format for both teachers and students.
Currently, I am transitioning from my first to second year of PhD studies in Education and Sociology. My extensive background in linguistics, combined with my Master’s Degree in Translation Studies, fuels my three professional passions: linguistics (languages and their fascinating components), teaching, and sociology (understanding human behaviour, history, and societal functions). I would be giving this course as my PhD is in Education & Sociology and within the sociological sphere of my thesis, there is a special emphasis on Women’s Studies.
I am excited to meet and get to know many students in my classes! My ultimate goal is to create an inclusive environment for all learners, ensuring that everyone has access to top-tier classes. I am deeply committed to this mission and take great pride in offering my help and support to the neurodiverse community. I hope our sessions will be as fun and engaging for you as they are for me!"
