Assignments
2-4 hours per week. Students will be assigned a song or vocal excercise to practice every week. When they return the following week, they'll warm up and they will perform the song they prepared. We'll discuss the strengths of the performance and areas that need strengthening. Students will then be taught what to do to make improvements. All feedback will be delivered in a supportive, gentle manner.Grading
Students will receive feedback during their lesson.Class Experience
Voice lessons may include guidance with vocal technique (warm-ups, posture, breath support, and an explanation of basic voice anatomy), music theory (notes, rests, clefs, time signatures, key signatures, solfege, scales, ear training) and stage performance techniques. Each lesson is custom tailored to meet the specific needs of each student, supporting their strengths and developing areas needing strengthened. Lessons look different for different students. Some students begin lessons to overcome a vocal challenge such as learning to match pitch or to unlearn unhealthy vocal habits. Others begin lessons to prepare for an upcoming audition. Voice development takes time and practice. Weekly lessons provide the repetition needed to develop the voice for life long singing.
Learning Goals
Students will learn healthy vocal techniques, stage performance techniques and basic music theory.
