During this course we will discuss the difference between service animals, emotional support animals and therapy animals. We will discuss what each type do and the legal rights of each type in the United States. We will see videos and photos of some of the things they do to help people. We will discuss what ADA means and how the laws of ADA apply to different types of animals. We will look at each type of helper animal first and than do an over view comparing what they do and their rights. We will also talk about the etiquette pertaining to different types of helper animals. This course has alot of teacher style lecture in it. I do ask several questions throughout the class to allow students to participate instead of only listening to me lecture. I personally own therapy animals and a service animal. Students will meet at least one of my therapy animals and will also meet my service animal during class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the differences and legal rights of service animals, emotional support animals and therapy animals. Students will learn etiquette pertaining to the different types of helper animals. They will learn what types of animals are legally allowed to be service animals, emotional support animals, ect. They will meet a service dog and therapy tortoises during class.
