Class Experience

Students will be immersed in the world of The Wizard of Oz by learning material from the Young Performer's Edition (Licensed to Jessica Schoenfeld). Together, we will become the characters of Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow and more, bringing the stage to your living room! Exciting original choreography taught by Busch Gardens performer, Jessica Schoenfeld will be learned along with the musical classics your child loves! This class is perfect for your young star-to-be or veteran performer, alike!

Week 1: Students will learn a vocal and choreographed warm-up and participate in improv exercises together. Students will be introduced to the characters of the Wizard of Oz through a role-playing game and will learn music and choreography to "Merry Old Land of Oz."

Week 2: Students will learn a vocal and choreographed warm-up and participate in improv exercises together. Students will learn what a typical audition process looks like and will undergo cold readings. (No roles will be assigned for this class, students will get to rotate roles throughout the class). Students will learn music and choreogaphy to "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead."

Week 3: Students will learn a vocal and choreographed warm-up and participate in improv exercises together. Students will undergo exercises in character work and will learn music and choreography to "If I Only had a Brain." Students will read the "apple scene" from the script and act it out. We will review material from previous weeks.

Week 4: Students will learn a vocal and choreographed warm-up and participate in improv exercises together. Students will talk about "I messages" in their music and scripts or what the action the character is expressing with each line. We will learn music and choreography for the first half of "Jitterbug." We will review material from previous weeks.

Week 5: Students will learn a vocal and choreographed warm-up and participate in improv exercises together. Students will talk about how lighting and technical elements create "mood" and "setting." We will talk about the mood and setting of the Wizard of Oz in it's various places. We will complete music and choreography for Jitterbug.

Week 6: We will put all pieces together and invite our family to watch our "performance" the last twenty minutes of class!
