Class Experience

In this class we will review the Pythagorean Theorem (and how to use it) as well as estimating square roots. We will use the Pythagorean Theorem in a guided activity to create a "Pythagorean Spiral" drawing. Students can choose to do the drawing on a larger poster paper or smaller printer paper. Once the drawing is complete students will be able to use their own artistic creativity to color or decorate it as they choose. Students will also be practicing the proper use of math tools such as protractors and rulers and working on getting precise measurements.

I love teaching math, but also understand that not everyone loves math as much as I do (and that's totally ok!) I taught middle school math for 10 years in the classroom and have been privately tutoring math for 7 years, and absolutely love it. I am very excited to start teaching classes again with Outschool. I like being able to work closely with students to ensure they are getting the most out of their education. I like that I can work to fit their needs and learning style. Every student learns differently which makes classroom learning so difficult for many kids since there's only one teacher and very little time to teach so many students. Since I am no longer in the classroom (but still a credentialed math teacher) I am available during school hours for families that are choosing to homeschool. I truly believe that ALL students can do well in math. There are so many ways to approach and think about math, that it’s just a matter of finding a way to explain it that makes sense to THEM.
When I am not teaching math I like to spend time with my family. We love being outdoors and watching and playing sports. I used to be an outdoor guide leading camping and backpacking trips and hope to get back into that more as my kids get older.
I look forward to meeting many amazing students and helping them understand math better so they can love it as much as I do (or at least maybe hate it less).
