Class Experience

US Grade 3
Beginner - Advanced Level
Math can be difficult and frustrating for many students. Often times, skills build upon each other creating learning gaps and making more advanced concepts feel impossible.

Other students may find math to be easy breezy! Maybe they are gaining momentum in their current math courses and are looking for a challenge.

Look no more! This class is perfect for high achieving 2nd graders, 4th graders who need extra support, 3rd graders learning the material and anyone in between!

In this math class we will introduce, analyze, and practice individual math problems using a spiral method. This means the lessons do not build upon each other! You can join this class at anytime through the year or miss a class without missing a beat! This method is a great way to build confidence, review or preview multiple third grade standards, and flex your math muscles!

Each class will begin with a short "icebreaker" question, include a mini math game and an opportunity for students to ask questions at any point!

We will be practicing 16 questions types with different problems in each class! Here is a general outline of our weekly classes.

Week 1
Number analysis, place value, word forms
Addition & subtraction with regrouping

Week 2
Arrays with repeated addition & multiplication
Arrays with repeated subtraction & division
Fact families with multiplication and division

Week 3
Solving equations with addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division using order of operations
Data tables and using patterns to solve missing variables
Algebraic equations

Week 4
Identifying and comparing fractions.
Word problems with various operations and elapsed time
Analyzing graphs (bar, line, picto, and stem and leaf)

Week 5
Area and Perimeter of regular/irregular shapes
Word problems related to area and perimeter
investigate 2-d and 3-d shapes including faces, angles, edges and type.

(This schedule will then repeat using different problems within the same question types. Students will gain confidence as our class progresses!)

Please note classes may cover more or less material depending on students prior knowledge and the number of students in each class. My goal is for every student to feel they understand the concepts modeled and practiced. Please message me if you have questions about a specific week!
Learning Goals
Students will become confident mathematicians by developing a stronger number sense and practicing different strategies to master 3rd grade math standards.
