Multiple-choice tests are an inevitable part of the education journey. Teachers do a wonderful job of teaching content; however, students lack the knowledge for tackling the test itself. This class will provide students with practical strategies for excelling on multiple-choice examinations in any subject area, at any level. This is a skill needed in the academic world and the 'real world' as well (e.g. driver's license tests, career licensing examinations, etc.) I will begin with general test-taking tips and enlighten learners about how these tests are developed (hint: teachers aren't trying to trick their students!). Many tips will be provided, each illustrated with example questions. Students will take turns answering the questions throughout the class in order to facilitate meaningful discussion and practice the skills. I will expose the learners to common types of multiple choice questions and how to best approach each. Discussion around all possible answers will take place (i.e. why the correct answer is correct and why other answers can be inferred to be incorrect). Finally, I will provide strategies for students to use when they find themselves in a position to make an educated guess on a question.
Learning Goals
Students will understand and apply specific strategies for excelling on multiple-choice tests in any subject area.

External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
2 Degrees
Master's Degree in Science from University of Alberta
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Alberta
My undergraduate degree in education provided me with information for how to design and administer multiple-choice tests. Throughout years of math tutoring, I realized that often time students are able to recall information, however it is the nuances of an examination that will 'trip them up.' I have done further education regarding multiple-choice tests and how to excel at them.
My studies in occupational therapy have give me a strong base for breaking down tasks into achievable pieces and assisting people in reaching their goals. This additional knowledge has helped me in my own studies in graduate school; I sure wish someone would have taught me these strategies earlier on in my academic career.
