Class Experience
Hello everyone! This is a one-on-one class for beginning reading (PreK-1st grade level) whether that be a child who is struggling, on-level, or advanced for their age. It is very positive and engaging with a variety of activities and movement such as songs and games. I first assess where your child is and then go from there to get your child to the next level with a systematic approach while assessing his/her progress along the way. We work on blending, decoding, sight words, and phonics, but...
Here is an example of some of the things we work on: 1. Letter sounds/names 2. Sounding out 2 letter words 3. Sounding out 3 letter words 4. Reading digraphs, CVCE words, R-controlled, and more phonics 5. Fluency 6. Comprehension 7. Reading Strategies 8. The importance of reading
I'm a current elementary teacher with a Kindergarten-6th grade teaching license, and I've taught for nine years. I spent five of those nine years working and an intervention teacher who directly worked with students who struggled to learn how to read and had special needs. I watched them gain confidence and move up in their reading levels. I've also worked with students who were on grade level and advanced. I've taught in person and I've also taught online as a virtual 1st grade classroom teacher and as a virtual ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teacher. I have a degree in elementary education and a minor in Spanish. I also took some graduate courses in Special Education.
I will discuss with you what your preferences are in regards to homework content and homework length. I can give homework or not give homework depending on what you would prefer. Examples are different worksheets as well as different reading passages/books or other styles of homework that will be the most beneficial depending on what your child's needs and interests are.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will do quizzes with letters and phonics and also assess reading level and fluency by having your child read passages.
30 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
