In this one time course, your child will learn an essential reading skill to aide in reading comprehension. MOST STUDENTS NEED TO IMPROVE THIS SKILL! We will discuss "Summarizing" and practice the skill during the class. Students will learn what it means to form a meaningful summary, 2 strategies to effectively summarize, and how to use key information to summarize well. We will have several opportunities in the class to practice summarizing and students will be given the opportunity to share their summaries. I will use a PowerPoint presentation to teach the material. I include pictures, stories, and interactive activities to develop the concept. I use both direct teaching as well as student led. My presentation includes direct instruction to present the content as well as fun activities to engage the students. Students will participate in discussion throughout the lesson in order for me to gauge their understanding and help develop it more. No previous knowledge on the topic of Inferring is required. I have taught in elementary school for 15 years and I am certified in Pre-K through 5th grade. I am very experienced and am prepared to help your child improve their reading comprehension skills! *If you do not see a time listed that works for your child, please look at my availability so we can find a time that does work!
